Leaving a Lasting Legacy
A legacy is a meaningful gift documented in your will, or a donation made in honour of someone dear to you. It represents one of the most effective ways to make an enduring impact on The Bus Collection, helping us to continue safeguarding Scotland’s transport history. Through your generosity, future generations will have the opportunity to gain experience about our rich and varied heritage.
How Legacies Can Help
Legacies may be directed towards a particular project, aligning with your personal interests. You might choose to support our educational initiatives, contribute to the development and preservation of our collections, aid restoration work, encourage internships and general volunteering. We deeply appreciate any form of support you can provide. Through legacies, we have been able to complete the restoration of a 1951 Aberdeen Corporation Daimler double deck bus, and we are about to start the restoration of a 1901 Aberdeen Corporation electric tramcar.
Alternatively, legacies can be unrestricted, giving the Museum the flexibility to embrace new possibilities and address unexpected needs as they arise. A legacy payment to a registered charity is exempt from Inheritance Tax. Making such a payment can then reduce any overall tax payable. A recent Budget proposal aims to bring more estates into Inheritance Tax.
A Gift for Generations
Whichever approach you take, your contribution will transcend your lifetime, enabling The Gordon Mills MBE Bus Collection to flourish as a hub of education and community participation in North East Scotland.
